Zeta Is Expected to Regain Hurricane Strength as It Moves Toward Louisiana

Tropical storm Zeta churned into the Gulf of Mexico, where it was expected to restrengthen into a hurricane as it takes aim at Louisiana and other parts of the central Gulf Coast.

The storm made landfall Monday night north of Tulum, Mexico, a popular tourist destination on the Yucatán Peninsula, as a Category 1 hurricane with 80 mile-an-hour winds, according to the National Hurricane Center. It weakened as it moved over the northern Yucatán and emerged off the coast, with winds slowing to 65 mph Tuesday afternoon.
